Nope they did have procedures, standards, QC the whole shebang...well until the tail end of the company when a company starting with "pressure" were doing the blasting work for them in the former subcontract division area (and barely managing SA2 / SA2.5 (compared with SA 3/SA3.5 when it was done in house) ) after laying my old man and a good few others off as it would "save a fortune" by subcontracting it.....they then started laying off experienced staff left right and centre, with a lot of the decent welders then working in Portlethen / Aberdeen directly for Brandt etc...shortly after the firm went belly up. Coincedentally Pressure went belly up, then a firm with its initials appeared elsewhere, then a different name on the original site (with mostly the same directors), then in Dundee with a big move to a former distribution yard off the kingsway before going belly up again...anyone local might know who I'm talking about..
Reekie Manufacturing did a heck of a lot of oil sector work for Brandt, Thule, Varco etc over many many years and did a lot of stuff for the Norwegians (who were VERY VERY picky) and the pipe conveyor for the hibernia (rig off Nfld and one of the world's biggest rigs) They stopped doing oil related stuff when their then boss cancelled the brandt contract when one of the managers went to work directly for brandt....cancelling that contract cut off a major revenue stream and probably precipitated the company going down the tubes....Site then was bought and subdivided the factory...and the local rag wrote a fluff piece...reality was pretty much every company that moved there was moving from existing premises and not creating any "new" jobs
Problem is the Reekie name is on a tonne of companies in the area, mainly as it was one family that started a lot of them and then sold them off, so you have several companies, some in similar sectors with very similar names, but entirely different staff and management.
Different Reekie Manufacturing is on the go now, in Arbroath, totally unrelated to the previous firm.
