Get out! For me, on older machinery at least, I like the traditional darker colours: Burgundy, Brunswick Green, Black, really dark Blue etc. Absolutely detest things like the yellows and light blues which they lather on hire equipment.

I'm about to liberate my Fobco Star from light cream, I've never liked it and I want something duller. I'm thinking of a grey-green, like the grey-blue grinder I painted.

I actually feel quite strongly on this subject! I like my contemporary (1950s-present) machines to have colour but to be a bit dull too. I hate all the machines painted one colour, that looks like an in-house works refurb job. Victorian/Edwardian era things look great in resplendent, bright gloss. Electrical boxes look great in hammered paint finishes, especially green or silver. Then there are special cases where it's a crime not to stick to the original, like Record vices which always look weird when they're not in blue.

ambassador beige is deff an interesting colour. Might be a contender. Good point also about the psychological effects of colours, had not considered that at all.

The cop cars here in ireland used to all be a particular shade of blue, so at the time it was not a popular colour for other cars, in fact it still isnt, but, i do think its an interesting shade and not too dark either

That never occurred to me when I was ragging a light blue Escort 1600 Sport through the lanes of Tip, must have been around 1990. The dark blue Quattro I took over there in later years caused more discussion, you could never get out of an attendant service petrol station in under half an hour that became the slowest car I had ever driven.

I'm quite fond of blue, albeit what evers cheap works.
Reekie red also has a personal attachment (family members worked at reekie manufacturing for years)

didnt they Reekie take on an oil related job and make a total mess of it i worked for the firm that had to gouge it all out and reweld it ,afaik they had any body just blasting it together with no approved procedures and had no knowledge of the standards ,should have stuck to farm equipment

seen a lot of gas bottle banks with reekie frames

Logo was a bloke with a striped sign held vertically, some of their kit was at one point painted green and branded netagoreekie
Been defunct now for....12-14 years now...

Thats the one I am talking about,would like one of those old fergies,ferguson followed suit after a while and brought out the "factory" vineyards.

..........after laying my old man and a good few others off as it would "save a fortune" by subcontracting it.....they then started laying off experienced staff left right and centre, with a lot of the decent welders then working in Portlethen / Aberdeen directly for Brandt etc...shortly after the firm went belly up.

We paint everything in a combination of satin black and blue smooth hammerite. I know hammerite isn't as good as it used to be but its always available and goes on quite nicely with a glass roller and after a few coats it looks great.
