Best belts for B& D 13mm Powerfile?

Hi. I have the B&D Powerfile / finger sander thingummy (which btw is you lots fault as you keep showing me tools ).

Well handy for getting at rust and prepping to weld in tight spots ( cleaning up my iffy welds ).

For this type of work, can anyone suggest half-decent belts for it please?

These are v useful tools, I got a load of blue coloured belts from ebay that were rubbish, every one snapped after a minute or less. So I'd say avoid those.
I subsequently got some brown coloured ones of the similar rough grit which are fine, these were again off ebay but I'd need to trawl thru old purchases to find the seller..
Just don't get the blue ones!

Best ones i have found are Cibo brand from , www.abrasivesworld.co.uk, Many grit sizes & last really well.

I found keeping the belts in the airing cupboard stopped them flying apart 60 seconds after changing them.

blue belts are zirconium grit,best for steel,the brown ones for wood.

.. but I was purely mentioning that I had some dodgy blue ones, I've no idea of the seller it was too long ago, as they are a bit of a "pig in a poke" from ebay I'd personally avoid the blue ones in case they were the same, just that really

Too late! Yup, they are rubbish! Actually - inconsistent. Some snap almost immediately, others quite a while - but overall poor.

Get mine from Abrasive Finishing Systems, FX87 ceramic grit - 36 grit 457x12mm removes weld and metal like **** off a shovel, don't bother with the DiY stores they split in no time, touched on took off.

Merlin don't seem to do online sales, while AFS don't do the 451mm x 13mm belt size that fits the B&D Powerfile (theirs startat 457mm).

I've ordered some to try from Dr Abrasive. Not ceramic, but the right size, & £9.80 for 10 belts Inc VAT & Delivery.

Again these are 457mm. 6mm isnt much, but my finger grinder states 451mm, so not sure they'll fit.

+1 for everything julianthegypsy has said. The Screwfix belts do fit the B&D Powerfile, they last OK, and they are cheap.

I bought Silverline ones 40 grit and 80 grit and they are garbage!, will keep an eye on this thread..

I think that different b&d models are stated to have slightly different length belts.
Mine is the KA900E I think, which is 451mm belts (or so my delving on the interweb tells me anyway).

My B&D is the very first BD280 fixed-speed model. I also have the blue Silverline 260 Watt variable-speed straight-line version. One states 451mm, the other needs 457mm. The Screwfix belts work equally well in both tools.

This is strange as with most things in this country they start off in Imperial sizes and become expressed in metric, 18 inches is 457.2 mm and they do fit, 451mm is 17 3/4 inches appprox, never had a problem with the 50+ I've gone through> Burnt out two powerfiles though, I use it to take out spot welds with a plunge cut, find I don't damage the metal behind.
