Benefit Claimants?

Hi Guys and Gals,
Just been into my nearest town (Middlesbrough) about 15miles away to do a bit of Prezzie shopping,
As usual a was keeping my eyes on the usual suspects, I.E.

Lots of folks "walking" about carrying walking sticks that hardly if at all touch the pavement ,
Just the same theme with quite a lot of the folks using disabled stickers in the special spaces reserved for handicaped parking.I watch as they leave the car "with or without walking stick" and set off to the shops like an olympic sprinter,
There are lots of people that genuinely are handicapped and need help but these ACTORS are costing US billions of ££££ in false claims and really do need to be stopped.
Just my opinion of course, Has anybody else noticed any little tell-tale signs that I'm missing.
If only we all had the courage to shop these folks we would all be better off.

The only people that can stop it Gordon are politicians, and courage and politicians don't really go in the same sentence, do they.

Benefit cheats are a pain (and you're right, they're just a drain on the rest of us), but they are nothing compared to tax cheats.

Tax cheats don't get such a bad press though. I wonder why?

I have several medical complaints. (I don't claim benefits for various reasons)

Anyway ... due to the 'wasters' in hospitals, my consultant appointments take far too long to come around.
For the genuine people it causes too much hurt - it took me just over a year to see the consultant I needed. Because of that I've been in pain for the whole time...

I visit hospitals quite a lot. I see familys 'looking' for an ailment a relative may have. Medical staff do have those trick questions that weed out the fakers but some do slip through the net.

I know of one guy who's crippled. He receives top whack benefits. He is often seen carrying big bags of pigeon feed whilst riding a bicycle....

I think you'll find the government are trying to address the issue. But of course they keep getting slagged of for having a go at those in need. However, up to a few years ago, one in seven of the working age population ... that's right, ONE IN SEVEN!! (don't know what the current figures are) were claiming an incapacity/disability benefit of some sort. How anyone could argue that figure is acceptable I don't know. If there are really that number of sick people in the UK lets close down the majority of the NHS, it's obviously not doing any good.

There are many people who are really ill but show little or no outward signs. I have a friend who is really really ill but this government has stopped his benefits because he tries to live a normal life and wont give in to his illness. Now his wife has to pay someone to look after him whist she goes to work.

You've hit the nail on the head Al, i.e. sorting out the genuine ones from the fakes. As HMG try to impose a tighter regime to weedle out the scroungers, unfortunately some of the innocent and needy fall foul of the system as well. Your friend should certainly get benefit to pay for extra costs incurred through his illness and should challenge the decision to get what he is rightfully entitled to.

It's not exactly been a great couple of years for jobs and I'm sure there are members on this forum who are claiming benefits at the moment.

Calling them a leech on society is surely going to cause bad feeling between members, especially if some members are a bit fed up having lost jobs, house etc.

I'm going to close this thread before fights start out. I'll start a thread in the suggestions and feedback section where we can discuss.
