Hi guys; some advice if you please.
I'm looking at a project which requires an approximate 15 degree bend being put in a piece of 25 x 12mm or thereabouts flat stainless (316) bar about 300 mm long and I've little experience of working with stainlss.
One of the problems is that the bend needs to be in the "wrong" way, that is the way that is most resistant to bending.
I've only likely to need to do about 1/2 a dozen parts so is this feasible using simple hand tools (such as the bending fork that I found elsewhere on the forum) or will I need to rig up some sort of jig?
Can anyone advise the likely force required to make the bend?
Is there any benefit in using heat, and if so to what temperature / colour? I've read that 316 is very prone to work hardening which may actually be good in the application once it's bent, but does this mean that the material would need annealing prior to bending?
I've got a feeling that this is going to be beyond my (limited) capabilities and I may have to look for alternative ways of making the parts but I'd welcome any thoughts that anyone may have.
Regards
