Bending Chromoly Tubing

Anyone done it?

I have a drawing which shows an 8 degree bend on 30 x 30 x 2 square section. I can just about do 30 x 30 x 2 mild steel to a 60 deg. on my manual bender but not sure what to expect in cro-mo. Is it likely to be a ball breaker or easier than normal box?

It should be more difficult as its stronger and stiffer.

As Al said it'll be more difficult, how much harder depends on the condition of the tubing (both the mild and the chromoly) i.e. whether we're talking normalised versus as welded/drawn, annealed etc. On the plus side 8 degrees means it all be over more quickly than with the 60* mild bends...

[pedantic/] I know what Al meant by stiffer but there's next to no difference in the stiffness of different steels (all the same within the elastic region), stuff like CrMo just feels stiffer when trying to permantly bend it becaue the yield strength is significantly higher than mild steel

Im trying to explain it simply and in generalised terms I think it is stiffer. Being pedantic if you only elastically deform it you wont bend it which is what the OP wanted to do.
