I found "grasshopper" much more relatable - think it was the burns on his arms from red hot metal.

back to the OP...

is "bench polishing" even a thing? I'm imagining the poor sods in some Victorian cutlery mill sat at a mop all day cleaning just-stamped spoons.

have you tried looking at local colleges for evening classes?

I’d just watch some youtube vids.

All down to the right abrasives.
Work through the grades, don't go finer until marks from the previous grit have gone.

Polishing is a trade in its self, it's bad enough doing it for half a day, I wouldn't fancy it as a career.

If your anywhere near Taunton somerset I don’t mind showing you. It’s fairly simple once you know the basics. A couple of materials have there own special ways but easy to learn.

I can’t think of any courses usually learn on the job with polishing.

Easy enough to make a good mess if you dont know what youre dooing too- especially on anything awkward shaped or internal corners.
