Bench Grinder options

I am bored with keep changing the wheels on my grinder over from grinding wheels to wire brush to polishing.

Do you guys have more than 1 bench grinder to combat this?

I have a couple of electric motors I think I have a washing machine one somewhere might just make something up!

Just be extra carefull making your own an out of balance wheel or one turning at the wrong speed range can be very dangerous

I am looking to change out my bench grinder for a bigger more powerful unit and also add another for wire wheels and polishing mop at some stage soon myself

I add the note of caution because it's something I have known happen and the guy was hospitalised for a while. The wheel broke and hit him square in the chest! If it got him in the head the likely result would have involved a coffin I suspect

doh too true Kent they can be dangerous for what they cost it is probably wise to just buy another bigger one

Got a baldor 1hp for wire wheel and polishing, little clarke 8" with fine and course stones. The baldor is a thing of beauty.

I have two, not expensive units, stone and wire wheel on one and two mops on the the other. They are both mounted on the same stand

i have 2 one is a cheaper 2 stones now 1 stone 1 wire wheel the other is a axminster 2 wheel one wet one dry but very soft stones for knifes ect

need 1 more for pollioshing

If you make one I would use it for polishing/wire brushing and do the grinding on a properly designed and built machine which should be safer.

Really though, they're not much money and as long as you avoid the small ones which are underpowered cheap (clarke etc) ones seem quite adequate.

One tip I can give it to always have a grinding stone on one end of a bench grinder. It acts as a flywheel and helps keep the grinder going when using the wire brush or polishing mop.

I wonder if you would help me, I have a Wolf wet and dry grinder WBG 150/200, there are notches on the water trough where it looks as if attachments might be fitted to hold rests etc. has any one got one of these grinders and would you let me know how to use it , I've tried the internet but have only found instructions in German. Yes that's the model I have but it's used and no paper work, the water trough is a little different though and has notches in it, pretty sure to attach some kind of rests I would think, hoping some one can help me who has one. Regards desmo11225

just get the belt sander one then you will have the 5 wheels and belt sander

I have two grinders, one has a grinding wheel and a wire wheel, the other has a polishing mop and a belt sander. Neither are expensive tools and the set up works well for me.

just wondering if this one will also stop when i apply too much pressure on the wheel

Its really for grinding tools etc, to a nice finish, no ripping steel off to change its size. Youll not be so aggressive with the wheel if you ever see one shatter.
