bench drill

got a record bench drill given by sparky to I thankful for.
I'm looking to up grade the motor.
current its only 1/4 hp and I would like 3/4 hp motor.
but all the ones that I can find has a much larger housing.
I've got 2 drills one is a chinese. this has a bigger motor but similar size body.
any pointers as to were I can get a reasonably priced motor?
ebay are all to big!

cant help at the mo but a third or a half hp motor would work fine on it and there smaller

that motors 2800 rpm , check yours it may be 1400rpm

Can you get the belts to slip with the current motor? If yes then a bigger motor won't help. If no then you might find that a bigger motor will result in the belts slipping at the point where the current motor starts to 'bog down'

the motor on the drill he has will pull down and stall trying to drill a 3/8 hole the belt doesnt slip worth mentioning though

it will drill 2mm plate but 5mm with a 6mm drill it just stop if I put any pressure on it.
it will it ok but slowly.

I have the belt tension just enough to bit but will slip if drills jammed in the work piece.
this so that I don't burn the motor out.

Overload protection

Many of the cheaper range of Bench drills, have a simple on/off switch which offers no overload protection at all, worth a double check to give the motor a way out of an overload situation.
