Belt tensioner for old bench saw

Hey everyone, I promised my uncle I'll ask you for advice. He's quite poor and uses second hand tools. He was given this bench saw, he can fix the table and the motor runs. I've fixed the blade alignment for him. I think it needs or is missing a belt tensioner though. You can adjust the height of the blade using a big butterfly fastener, but that changes the tension of the belt, so I'm assuming the saw is missing some belt tensioner, is that right? There's no belt at present.

Isn't that some tensioning thing on the lhs of the shaft. Is it looks like it moves. Failing that how is the motor attached?

That moves the entire blade.

I might not be seeing right, but it looks like the motor is on a hinged plate.

If so, it might use the weight of the motor to tension the belt (as you lift the blade it lifts the motor with it) - just leave the motor plate free to hang.

I can see two missing nuts plus the guards and guides. What else do you see?

You forgot to add that you wrap the leccy cable round your boot and push down for a bit more tension if it starts to slip
