New to welding, mostly going to be arc and mig welding, mostly mig (welding car body panels). Am in the process of getting all the equipment, thought I had everything until i started hearing about all the dangerous fumes that welding produces. I thought about going down the route of buying disposable face masks although seems they aren't the cheapest considering they have limited usable life. I also have read people saying they aren't the most effective due to where they are positioned in relation to fumes being given off. I have now been looking at air respirator systems such as speedglas adflo and the jackson system. They seem very expensive although my thinking is that not only would i be an effective breathing filter system but also getting a decent auto darkening helmet aswell at this higher price. So my question is am i getting carried away and falling victum to an unnessesary scaremongering or is there realy no choice here if you want to look after your health when welding.
I have been looking at the jackson preditor helmet with accompanying jetstream respirator for £299. Your comments are welcome.
