Is this worth trying out as a beginner, looking to ideally do gaskets for now and then in the future go to gas which it seems this has the option to. Not looking to spend quite a lot on my first welder just learn as I am mainly going to be doing it on cars (body panels,chassis)

I was also looking at the dirty pro that was around £100 or even the static arc 140

Hi, more experienced welders will be along soon but I've been using a Clarke Pro90 ( slightly smaller version of the 100) for car repairs and mot work for many years.
It works OK with no gas but I prefer with gas ( co2 using pub bottles or fire extinguishers).
I very rarely use the lower power settings so I'd say there's no need to buy a machine that can go very low.
The 100 should do fine for car repairs.

Buy an auto darkening helmet, it makes a world of difference!

the clarke 151 is a good tool if you can find one in tidy nick, little more oomphh for when you do thicker stuff, but still good on tin. make sure its a gas model not just gas less.

Hi. I was told the same when I bought my mig. After 20+ years doing car repairs (mainly cars from 1990s or earlier) I know it's rare for me to use the lower 2 of 4 settings which I think says I normally use 65 or 90A. Anything thinner than that is mainly rust so gets cut out and replaced with good metal at higher amps.

The lower settings were handy when I welded the thin plate hinge on a laptop screen but that was a one-off

Edit: I can't add a screenshot and my post keeps crashing so.. my Pro90 has a range 25-90 but I always use 60A or above. The 100 has a range 30-100 so should be fine.
A lot of people say the 150 etc gives you more power for thicker work, I don't have that option but have never missed it. A lot depends what type of work you might want to do in the future.

I had a second hand 105en (virtually identical to the 100en) for 10 years and used it extensively on my 450SL restoration for body panels and 2mm chassis. Eventually I sold it for the same money as I bought it for. I gave up on no gas pretty quickly and moved to hobbyweld gas.

You don’t say where you are, but I was about to put a Clarke 160TM up for sale. As new condition with an extended return lead with a Dinse fitting & most of a 5kg roll of wire. I wasn’t intending to sell it, but then bought an Rtech on a whim
