You can't set it on 9-13, you gotta choose one. Say 10, and see what happens. Either change it for 9 if you can't see the weld pool, or try 11 if it's still too bright.

I think you need to adjust the screen so it is darker when you weld.

Crikey, there's a switch on the inside that's either at 5-9 or 9-13,

I didn't even notice the dial on the outside of the helmet that has the actual setting,

Yeah, that was it. Damn thing was set on grind, I was seeing after images which always faded after a minute or two and never any headaches so I think it was dark enough to prevent any damage -- much, much better now that I've got it set on 10. Mask should come set at the highest for safety purposes, the manual doesn't mention the knob and silly me I was always looking at the inside of the helmet.

You actually can do this on some of the latest kit to come out, though you can still up it manually to your prefference

Yeah that's why I don't use grind settings no more

Never heard of such a feature, could you point me to a manufacturer? I am not really sure whether or not this is an interesting option, but if it exists, I might be worth knowing about it.

It certainly is if changing the welding power radically during say a TIG procedure, or just to save time when switching process or power during fabrication of a single item within a single item, say RHS to thinner sheet . Price is about double a regular auto visor. As for manufacturer it didn't interest me that great so I might remember or write it down but if I come across it again will post.
When you have a say a 100 off or more of something to do anything that cuts production time and increases potential quality has to be a good thing (like the old capstan lathe really)
