Seeing this thread pop up again reminds me that I still have to move on my high powered 5GHz link. The claim is up to 25 miles but sadly, not with a gurt lump in the way! Ebay sale maybe, or some better option?

Well the installers came today, they couldn't put it in the same way as the BT line as they couldn't go over the garage roof and put it through the loft space, even though I had discussed this with the sales people. I wasn't happy with their proposed routes along the guttering down over the fascia, soffits and wall then through, and about 10 ft above the drive!
Disappointingly no fibre yet.

2.4GHz doesn't, but the professional standard links are in the 5GHz band.

Our 3ch trunk is on 5Ghz site link we migrated about 4 years ago it then changes to VHF hi band for the mobile ends.
The 5Gig is more resilient
We used a 5Ghz link to switch and monitor a water pump filling a water 20K gallon holding tank

Yes I think so too.

Not very happy with the installation company, I put two installation options to BeFibre to discuss with them and am currently waiting feedback.

ive dug the property so made channels in 3 propertys when they arrived told them how i want it and that i will help them out as i kinda dont mind as long as they are willing to fit it that way

blueyonder was 2 installers the third being virgin media and theyve all installed it my way

if they refuse its usualy there not going to like it

my issue at the moment is cost for the internet

i hate the con of broadband but you still need the phone line to be paid for as thats bounces the cost per month

ive looked at all of them

broadband by mobile phone and hotspotting it 30.00 and it gets restricted even the one thats says its unlimited

broadband by fibre thats the tricky one some areas still need a phone line connection 24.00 + line 10-15.00 extra

broadband by cable 30.00

they all quote untrue prices on the internet cheapest ive gotten too is 29.00 just for broadband ( virgin media )

mobile phone is tricky its still 30.00 for unlimited and thats a lie its always restricted if your a heavy user

fibre well in certain areas you can get fibre to the house with no phone line to be paid for, but in other areas you have to pay for that phone line thats 24.00+ 10-15.00 extra for that phone line

its a right con with all of the suppliers that are supplying customers

I did similar in the old days for cable tv. Drilled where I wanted it, put a draw string in, and said poke wire through here. Got it to other end with him feeding, he did his conneection. I hate surface clipped wire looks awful down the outside of a house!

@addjunkie yes I hate clipped cable too. Must admit since yesterday I've been looking at cables on houses and installations around our way and most look awful (being diplomatic!)

We were cable free when I did the place up, but now were starlink from our barn to house and holiday cottages through a point to point network, weve a bit of cable, which over random stone looks awful. Andthe surface run forthe car charger looks pants too.

Well having finally read through their T&Cs ( especially as I did that as work for 20+ years). They should be offering me a bespoke installation and advising me of the costs for such before continuing or ending the agreement. This would be installed as I want it, so we will see how this progresses.
First time I have printed T&Cs off and highlighted paragraphs since retiring!

Our original installation was with BT for the phone & went to an upstairs window. When we got ADSL They simply upgraded the internal box & I had to distribute the signal using long cables & homeplug adapters.

I'm with now with Fibrus & the sales person said I could have the box wherever I wanted it.
Come installation day the guy arrived & wasn't to happy when I wanted the box put in the office, right at the back of the house. He said that they were only given 2 hours per installation so it could be tight for time. He said it could be difficult getting through the thick stone walls in the house plus a lot of internal routing.

I had already thought about the routing, cable from pole anchored to the wall, then clipped around the fascia to above the office, down the wall, in through the wall directly into the box. I suggested that & he said that's doable, only 1 hole to drill & I can reach everything from the cherry picker.

He had everything done in just over an hour, very neat & tidy. I offered to finish off the routing of the loose cable from the fibre end box to the end boxes as it would have been slow & awkward because of a large book case.

We had a good chat over a cuppa, turns out he was the guy who trained the installers. Said that if I had got one of the trainees they would likely not have did the installation because they had to do everything 'by the book' & had little common sense!
He was only out installing due to the pressure they were under & suggested I apply for a job as I'd pass the training no problem!

So I guess I got lucky, an installer with common sense, plus I had already planned the simplest easiest route that he was willing to do.

I think it was going over the roof which was the problem, cherry picker couldn't get access either. I'd cleared all the other areas so they just had easy access.

Well I've just rung them! They could install to my requirements, but as I have emailed them numerous times this week asking for an update and have received no reply apart from the automatic one I have decided it is best to cancel and look elsewhere.

Might be cheap but customer service means a lot to me.

just becareful what you might find is there all the same when it comes to an installation

even virgin media has been known to fob its customers off

when it comes to installations alot of the engineers just want to install to a modem router and go wireless and thats the end of the job in there eyes its why i use the direct method to the pc and make it clear when im ordering it

that i want a direct line to the pc

Full fibre is only Fibre Heroes here at the moment. It's not even getting any acknowledgement that annoys me. If someone had rung back when they said they would and said we're looking into it with the installer then we would have given them the benefit of the doubt and most likely stuck with it.
Most likely Plusnet order being placed tomorrow, only FTTC but for just two of us that's fine. (I don't mind the router) Neighbor says she's always had good service from them.

For goodness sake stay away from XLN, crowd of crooks who will silently push up your price & if you try to leave they threaten to fine you £400 for leaving your contract early, even though our contract had expired & we were on a monthly rolling one. Then when we did leave they created a new phone only contract without us agreeing to it, even created a direct debit without our permission but using a persons name instead of XLN, only caught it by looking at our bank statements. Bunch of sneaky, thieving gits! All direct debits now cancelled, but they are still sending a bill every month, watching closely for another mysterious direct debit.

Try googling XLN broadband, well known for dodgy practices!
