Had a weekend in Oxfordshire,came back with this.no idea where I got it,slightly itchy but no effects,went for a walk,few stinging nettles but don’t think it’s that. Wife has a swollen ankle,pharmacist stated it’s from a BLANDFORD fly,hers is painful,so she says,lol.

get some anti histamine tablets take 3 a day only a quid a box, will stop the itching and clear up quicker dont bother with piriton there 4 times the price . you just pay for the name

Try an antihistamine or even hay fever tablets to prevent the itching

I had something similar a few years back, after walking in delamere forest.


The wife and kids got some small fairly innocuous bites, mine looked like yours all over my legs. No idea why they took such a dislike to me, but they were damn painful - they swelled up pretty bad so the skin felt super tight and were super itchy!!

Several people got bitten at Tewkesbury medieval festival a few years ago. Little black fly, always on the legs as it didn't seem to fly above about 18 inches. Everyone who got bitten had badly swollen legs, it was really nasty.

Coming into contact with the tiny hairs off the Processionary moth can cause a similar rash. They can be airborn which is pretty much unavoidable.
