Bedroom Wardrobes

Does anyone have any experience of sliding bedroom wardrobe systems. I'm looking into what options are out there for all the internals such as shelving, draws etc etc and also the sliding system and options for door material etc etc etc

yes however sliding systems are more for convenience as you do lose a little storage space whilst they are being used

I fitted the Stanley ones many years ago, just look at some of the websites selling them and its quite easy to make your own shelving system, I used the Stanley rail system and made a set of removable freestanding shelves, Daughter still uses them
I just squared off the gap and fitted Mirrored doors, looks good and we felt best use of the space

I used a set from B&Q.
The upper rail has to be well fitted as it takes the weight of the doors. The lower one is the guide, so that has to be fitted correctly.
They came in 2,3 or 4 door designs.
They hang in front of any internal fittings, they advise 20mm as a minimum.
They are easy to fit.

But @Parm , leave one side almost empty. it makes it easy to hide in or in your case leap out in your super hero costume.

Slide robes, sharps or Hammonds are your best bet. Imo Hammonds. They aint so dear as you would want to try gathering the stuff and fitting it.

Hammonds trumps sharps. Biased a little. Fitted for Hammonds for a few years. There sliding system is top notch. Keep your fingers crossed for a decent fitter though. Put right some bad fits in the past.

I worked with sharps a while (I was mkd trainer years back) and bought Hammonds but mainly because I wanted proper wood. My sliders are great I fitted the insides out and they did the doors and the walk in wardrobe racking.

hammonds are the most expensive wife payed 3 grand for bedroom cabinets and wardrobes the workmanship was sh...ite and I told the fitter so and showed him the fireplace I made and another rooms cupboards and said so don't bullsh..it me about the walls being not level and I don't know they sent someone else to put them right to my satisfaction

:0 he really blamed the walls for being out of level. There scribed and fitted on all axis. At least 25% of my workload was remidial work on poor fits. A lot of the fitters I met were not tradesman. Ex lorry drivers ect ect.

Unfortunately a fact of life when your likely fitting upwards of 50 million worth a year is you will get the odd noddy come to work for you. To be honest I couldn't have bought the stuff for what I paid at the given quality

Sharps prices are extortionate. How anyone can start off with a price of £25k+ And get down to 3k is beyond me.

And even at 3k they are still whey over priced.

i chased sharps guy out of our house and told him 2 xxxxx off gave us a price for fitted cupboards 2 grand and I said id let him know. reply was that offer only lasted today tomorrow would be 60 quid dearer . ok il let u know but your missing the point sir. no I'm not what's 60 quid on a few grand il let u know he got all arsey and said he was here to do business . at that point that's when I politely asked him to leave

. Nice top scribe. That was my favorite range to fit. Sliding and carcass. Same range but had to improvise. Surveyor didn't allow for the vaulted ceiling. Thankfully a builders merchants down the road. @Parm worth going to a Hammonds showroom in person. Some of the ranges are better than others. The textured finish wears a lot better and doesn't chip and mark like some of the cheaper ranges. Stay away from gimmicky pull out rails ect too

For sliding doors I just went for the sliding door rails from screwfix at the lengths required (doing 2 build in wardrobes) and bought 4 ready to paint doors from jewsons for £25 each as sliding wardroab doors were £100 each in Ikea, B&Q etc etc.
Also meant we could paint the doors whatever colour we wanted, made that the feature wall in the bedroom.

Fitted out the interior as required to suit each of us. 2 half height and 1 full height rail on her side. shelves above.

Good info folks. I'm gathering thoughts, ideas and information to make some wardrobes for mum and dad. Mum wants sliding doors with customised interior fittings.

Parents are going to IKEA for ideas and a plan, then I have to make it happen. I'm pretty good with wood work but new to sliding doors
