bearing pullers

Can anyone recommend a good set of bearing pullers
i've been using a cheepo set and now the thread is
stripped of the central piece.
I was thinking of the sealey hydraulic set

We Have a set of sykes picavant kicking about somewher in the workshop.They are awesome pullers, they recomend to only tighten by hand but we have used a small bar in the past (just about 5"longer than the handle) and have even hit them with the hammer and they are still going strong. Excellent pullers.

I was taught that is the correct method. Tighten up by hand as much as possible without extra leverage and smack the end of the thread a sharp blow and repeat the operation.

I did not know that was the correct operation of hydraulic pullers I actually thought that was frowned upon.

Sorry, i saw that mgarym had mentioned hydraulic pullers in the original post so i thought i would mention mine

But that aside they are a truly magnificent set of pullers and have taken dogs abuse. I really could not fault them.

but cheap pullers ,can you recommend a godd
conventional set

where did you get yours and if you dont mind me asking
what did they cost?

Our pullers came from an auction about 6 years ago. They were almost new at that time but if i recall they would have been around the £200 mark. I would have no problems with a new set if these were to break.

These have really taken a lot of stick, but perhaps these would be too expensive for some!

I would have thought that any good tool sales places would stock these!

I dont mind paying a bit extra for quality
i'll look into getting a set of hydraulic pullers
picavant if possible

We have Sykes hydraulic pullers at work for years ,and they are very good ,they are let down imho by the clearance needed behind the bearing is quite large,if the arms fit the job they would be my first choice but often they just won't fit ,of the top of my head at least 5-6mm required....Gav

gav ,im think you can get an attachment ... kinda like two semicircles that clamp under the bearing . hard to explain i know what i mean tho

just looked at sykes pickavant website , bearing seperator is what im on about , they allso do low profile puller legs .
you could spend a fourtune on sp stuff
