Bearing markings

The difference in price between a cheap bearing and a Koyo is nothing compared to the cost of breakdowns or downtime, and it's not like Koyo is twice the price of a cheapy (ignoring the no-name junk that permeates the bearing supply world at the moment).

Interestingly, the Koyos are either slightly cheaper or slightly more depending on supplier.

A mate in the 80's bought a BMW R100RS and was telling everyone how much better built it was than the "Jap scrap" we were riding, I gave him a hand changing the front wheel bearings and had to laugh when he found the original bearings had "made in Japan" on them

Also, while thinking about it, for there to be fag bearings in there I would say they aren’t original. They were all skf in my dill, which makes sense considering where they were manufactured.

Yes, I think you are probably right. I found some older (EM825) exploded diagrams and they all mention SKF bearings. The U2508 spare parts PDF I got directly from Machinery Scandinavia has that bearing marked simply as "bearing 6203", so I don't think they care much for what type it is! Further down the pages, some other bearings are specifically mentioned as SKF.

Having said that, though, I do believe that FAG bearings are just as good as SKF. (Plus I figure China is more likely to be producing fake SKFs than fake FAGs.)

Also, it turns out my unit was manufactured in 1980 - a year before me!
