If you strip the cage and balls from a suitable sized roller bearing you will have a very hard roller which could be ground to shape for smaller profiles.

What size bolster chisel are you using on the lathe nik?

On a related note Was looking round the web at prices for one and stumbled on these two sites

It appears to be same company location but different names AND very different price for SAME tool (bench top swager machine) Or am I missing something........

No Mike, you're not missing anything! I bought one of their bead rollers off Ebay with the sole intention of doing the usual strengthening modifications and found it so badly made I was going to send it back. Not wishing to throw the postage money down the drain and as a resolution to the problem I asked if they would sell me one of those swaging machines dirt cheap which they agreed to, about £70 including postage from memory

The only good things I can say about the swager out of the box is I like the clamp base and the rollers were concentric unlike the bead roller. The dies are a smaller bore than the bead roller with a keyway so not interchangeable. Looking at those two adverts, if you paid the full Metz price you would be very unhappy with your purchase and at the Canyon price contemplating murder.

where do they get the prices from It's all made in the same factory I wore one of the bench mounted swagers out just forming a bead on a bit of 0.9m 315 Stainless, all the teeth on the gearing at the back fractured. Pile of s***e, and that was a WNS "version" I wouldn't give any them scrap bin room.

I forget how many times I have stopped the job and built the kit needed. Sounds mad for a small job, which I could sub out, but then find the tool essential for years after.
Nice job Nik, even a pro paint finish, which most of mine don't get...

exactly, i probably only need it to do about a metres work, but looking how versatile it is and what can be acheived even for a amateur is quite amazing
