Neighbor had some old JD tractor tires that hadn't been off the rim for eons, and bonded/rusted on tight.

Simple solution, didn't even break a sweat....

Put them on a burn pile, came around next morning, cut off the bead wires, light wire brushing, and then re-painted them.

Fellas, all you need for breaking tyre beads is a piece of 2" x 2" angle about 4" long and a 2 handed 7lb hammer.
Slightly grind the corners off the angle so it dosn't scratch the rim. Put the wheel on the floor, set the angle on the tyre, open side down, near the rim, stand on opposide side of the wheel from angle and drive it in kinda corner first with the fbh. I have broken many beads that way and some of the very tightest gripping beads, maybe some neeeded the 14lb hammer.
The only damage to the rim will be if you miss the angle with the fbh, I have done that too.

That's what I do for 16" split rim truck tyres. I didn't have the angle iron with me on the last lot I did so I used one of those Chinese manual changers to break the bead. The manual changer was probably actually more work than the angle iron especially as bending over and rotating/flipping a truck wheel isn't easy.

I watched a few YouTube videos of people taking tyres off and it looks like they've been round the rims with a brick afterwards.

Dropping them shiny side down on concrete floors etc. All to save a fiver..

Ahh you are right, classy alloys would suffer from the concrete floor. Maybe a piece of rubber matting would help but nice shiney rims would be better done on the tyre machine.

Personally if you have a quantity to do just buy a proper machine. They often come up pretty cheap, just don't be tempted to buy one that has bits missing or broken unless you know you can fix it. Yes they take up space but they can be easily tucked in a corner especially if you get a swing arm and not a tilt. If you look after it you will never lose any money and will save loads fitting your own tyre.

Sometimes proper machine come available cheaper than some of those old dunlop manual units. As the only electonic in most is the motor and the switch even buying a 3phase is no issue because you can easily swap the motor out and probably make it more valuable.

I paid £160 for my first changer, one of the clamp jaw arms was broken(most likely because someone broke a bead with it extended) I got someone to weld it up which cost £20. I changed loads of tyres on that machine. When I need to do bigger tyres I found one that went up to 20" at Vauxhall dealer in Dagenham, hadn't been abused and they were closing down. A nice Corghi tilt arm unit. I think I paid £450-500 and amazingly when I listed my old one on ebay it made £400+. I have changed loads of tyres and I have never regretted buying a machine, a friend of mine in Berkshire just 4 tyres fitted to some Landrover rims and it cost £80, it's not the first time he's done it and could have easily bought a machine. I am well up financially and I know I'd get my money back on the machine so for me it's a no brainer. Next step for me is a unit with an assist arm.

Yup ^^^ same here, and a spin balancer.

Nothing says "Prepared" when you can mount your own brand new snow tires on a Sunday night before the big blast of snow.
FWIW that time during an impending Noreaster snowstorm, I called to the local WalMart inquiring about some snow tires, he had them in stock.

But the appointment book was filled for at least a week to get them mounted.

"No problem, I'm cash & carry" Should have seen the look of relief on his face.

i do a bit at a haulier who’s got one of them.

It’s a Chinese copy of yours. This time last year I posted about how new it was and everyone was pleased with it.

Put it this way. Covid outlived it. Brilliant before it died though.
