Thats major surgery there Parm, Good luck!!
Currently still failing, but there is a faint glimmer of hopeToday I’m determined to get the welder to do something sensible
Just got to keep things in line...I'd probably put a tack each quarter circle round the circumference. Worth getting these 4 tacks spot on....after that it's just filling in. Standing the cylinder vertically will make it easier to align...on it's side you are fighting gravity trying to weld the ends on. maybe that's great advice...a little too late!I now understand what you mean, welding springy round things to other out of shape round things is a complete bitch
It is called practice, without which your welding ability will not increase, have a little faith.I now understand what you mean, welding springy round things to other out of shape round things is a complete bitch
This was a project too far for my very limited welding ability
Not helped by the fact I’ve not set the Mig up correctly
I’m considering my continued membership of this forum.I doof my cap to you sir, a man who can cook and is not afraid to show how bad his welding is. Thank god for mains grinders Id think a battery one wouldn't have made the grade.
Nonsense...I quite like your idea of cutting both ends off. I'm thinking of using it on my Nissan Figaro project...actually that won't work...on your BBQ the middle bit was worth savingI’m considering my continued membership of this forum.

Situation update
The wire was feeding, then stopping, burning back then going again.
Running the wire without starting an arc confirmed that something was up with the wire feed. Tensioner was quite slack
Then the nut securing the wire roll was way too tight
Few quick adjustments and I now have this

My best welds ever, done on a bit of scrap from the same bottle I’m trying to weld
Probably next week. The other side is glued back on and welds ground flat. In my excitement of actually making some ok ish welds I forgot to take picturesLooks good @Parm . When is the inaugural burning ?
