^^ True, but with gas you get to BBQ about ten times as often! -IMO The lava rocks that most gas BBQ's now have help a lot with the flavour as all the fat burns off and smokes just as it does on a charcoal one.

avoid Garden centres for gas.

Shop around, out local garage does a good deal.
Plus my local welding supplier does deals.

the gas with larva rocks are the best imho..once you get the rocks full of fat and grease from the cooking in about 4 weeks you then get the full undiluted flavours...best with the butane (blue bottles) as it does,nt produce soot but iff you want propane then i have loads of calor bottles here and you can just take one as your starter bottle so there will be no silly deposit on the bottle for you...

Id look on your local free ads type thing and get a Propane bottle....Id get a 6Kg they hold enough and easy to move....not a LITE because they are discontinued...go on ebay and get a propane reg and a bit of tube and your away.. most of the regs these days hand tighten....6Kg refills are about 20 quid....18 to 23 round here

Lite cylinders are still available, I think they are just not making any more Al, I've changed one recently & there were truckloads in the depot. If you have one you can change it back anyway.

I found not a lot of difference charcoal or gas, the lava rock in the gas ones gets very hot and the juice dripping onto the rock gives a very nice flavour, so I'm happy with either type,

Don't do it! Charcoal BBQs may be more effort than gas, but the food tastes better.

I agree....and given the time thats what I do....gas BBQs are just a cooker but outside.....but they are convenient....I actaully use a Cadac which IS an outdoor cooker

A mate we go away with has a Cadac, brilliant thing, means he cooks all the food.

And whatever you do, don't buy one of those LPG to propane bottle adaptors off Ebay, the gas is half the price and they pay for themselves on the first fill-up at the garage if you have a big bottle...

had meny gas bbq over the years only for the reason it took so long to wait for the coals to light they all went inside i was on my lonesome

first thing i go is convert it to propane gas the bottles are a bit bigger and only cost £24 for a exchange the regulater cost £6 they burn near the same all you have to worry about is the right speed regulater

If your using a lot of gas then Safefill bottles would probably be the cheapest, you can top up when half empty at your convenience, only problem is find somewhere local to refill them.

These things are great. Just fill it up with charcoal, put a firelighter under it and 15 mins later coals are lit. No messing about. Also handy for lighting coals outside the BBQ when you're doing low & slow smoking for many hours and the coals need topping up.

I found the gas axe lights the bbq nicely
