Sheldon is merely an exaggerated version of so-called quirks you'll see in some people. Doesn't mean they're Narcissistic though. Out of all of the characters, he's probably the most realistic, and I've noted they've adapted his behaviour slightly to refine it and make it more realistic, over time. Take the three times with knocking etc. thing. He never did that initially, and his lack of social grace and discomfort in such situations is again, whilst somewhat exaggerated, not actually unrealistic per se.
Brilliance in one or more areas usually comes at the cost of lacking in other, more mundane features/abilities. It's merely that some are quite adept at hiding/masking their so-called quirks whilst in company and some aren't. Take an introvert as a prime example. They'll usually come across as being one of the most friendly, sociable people you can imagine, even though it's totally against their nature and preference being in company, and it takes notable effort and energy to put on that mask. They do it well though, as a rule, if a tad clunkily on occasion.I've only seen him in house of fools , I loved that seriesbut absolutely hate mrs Browns boys
