Battery jigsaw

Anybody suggest which battery/cordless jigsaw would be best? occasional use so nothing proffesional required .

just a jcb drill that i was given , just thot a battery one would be more practical to be honest.

Nothing wrong with Ryobi gear, I've used just about everything, and while some are undeniably better, they all fail, they all get nicked, and none of them bounce very well.

I bought a 2peed drill, screwdriver, jigsaw, and sds drill, 2 chargers and 8 li-ion battiers for less than 1 drill/driver from Milwaukee.

Whatever brand you go with I'd want a trial use first, some cordless jigsaws are useless. I've an old AEG 12v jigsaw, weighs a ton, doesnt jump about all over the place, so you dont need any weight on it. Pendulum Action is another thing that is over looked

We have Makita cordless for most of our kit. Jigsaw is 5 years old at least and still going strong. Used a fair bit. Sds is at least 8 years old and we use it to chisel up tiles a lot and nothing wrong with that either.

They get abused too. Kicked dropped and get wet occasionally.

I have a Ryobi 18V jigsaw that's about 10yrs old, no problems with it and it cuts straight.

As per @Shox Dr most of the Ryobi stuff I have has been good, few exceptions but the jigsaw wasn't one of them

Ok so my stuff is mainly for hobby use but I have gutted and rebuilt the house, added a 2 storey extension that has doubled the footprint and built a garage then extended that and all my battery tools were Ryobi

I have their 18V drill, driver, impact drill, circular saw, jigsaw, multitool, angled drill, angle grinder and recip saw and the only disappointment was the angle grinder

One of the drills fell off the roof onto concrete and is still going

I bought a cheap Black and Dekker jobbie that was in a Tesco sale - combined sander / drill / jigsaw. I think I paid about £20 or £30 for it. Expected it to be crap but the jigsaw works rather well.

i also have the Ryobi gear

drill is nice older version new version not so good
grinder and jigsaw
hammer drill i dont have

batteries are fine but i have 6 of them 1 has just died but i prefer the dewalt older version battery drill has more torque to it

make sure you get a higher amperage battery

occasional use id rather buy plug in electric tools

I don't particularly like the Ryobi stuff either
But I use my cordless stuff everyday so things like thin plastic covers and gutless motors get noticed very quickly. The op wants a jigsaw to do odd jobs on occasions in which case I don't suppose many brands are going to disappoint with that in mind. Like said above. Pick a colour and stick with it.
There is lots of sense in sticking to one battery platform

Is that the case for lithium ion batteries too brightspark?
I thought they had a shelf life despite no of charges but could be wrong.

there a lot more forgiving when not used or left uncharged . I have a small screwdriver I left for 6 month and its no longer healthy

I had an AEG drill - it was a nice bit of kit but the lithium battery only lasted about 6 months - cost of the battery I just bought another drill.
Why do they put all the charging electronics in the battery pack? No wonder they are so expensive. The so called charger is just a cradle really.

After saying how happy I am with the Ryobi stuff, I am slowly replacing it with Bosch Professional. Need a good battery angle grinder and it's the one bit of Ryobi kit that while it's OK, it's not up to serious use so bought a Bosch one. Don't want multiple types of batteries so will slowly switch over as funds allow, have now bought one of their drills as well
