As the titles says . Is there anybody that could recommend a charger. It's just for 12v heavy tractor batteries. Or is there not much of a difference in them
of all the chargers ive used, the C-tek is the best one ive came across, i use a XS2500 extended here for much the same work.
it will charge ordinary, trickle charge or recondition a battery, it will also sense if the battery is getting too warm and knock itself off in case it damages anything and it wont overcharge either.
the 2500 was the biggest one they done at the time i bought mine but i think the numbers have changed since but the machine would be the same.
they arent a cheap charger, but they are worth the money.
they come in different sizes and prices.
a few years ago i was in the lamborghini factory in italy, i seen when you bought a car they supplied a C-tek charger with it, i had my charger a few years at that stage but i was happy to see they knew a good product when they seen one.
CTEK are very good, I have a couple of the smaller ones plus an MXS7 and an MXS25.
The MXS25 is a beast and will charge up to 500ah, it will get a 110ah tractor battery usable(maybe not fully charged) in no time. I've had stuff that wouldn't turn over running in 30mins using it.
Best thing is you don't need to disconnect anything.
It also has a Recon setting and can recover some batteries that have been heavily discharged.
They are not cheap though, the MXS25 is the top end but an MXS10 or 7 will easily do a tractor battery and in my experience the the smaller ones seem to do a better charge if you have the time.
i wish blenkie...
mind you, if i had all the money for one sitting on the kitchen table, id look at it for a long time before id part with it for a car.
Mrs T bought it as a present for me, we did the Ferrari tour but not the factory as you only get to see that if your laying down rather serious coin.
the lambo factory we were allowed in, and we went to see Mr Pagani's place after that.
all in all an extremely enjoyable day i must say.
alas i have no pictures, as a bolt of lightening fried them last year and to my dismay i hadnt them saved on the external hard drive, i lost about 5,000 pics that day, im still really annoyed about it if i was honest.
Unrelated to battery charging, I know, but if you still have the hard drive that those images were on, it's probably only the electronics that got fried, rather than the hard drive disk itself. If the images are important enough to spend money on recovering, it could probably be done by a specialist firm with access to the right gear and a clean room facility. Cost would probably run into several hundred pounds. Search for "data recovery" using your favourite search engine.
There's loads of options for a charger, from a dead simple one to the fancy Cteck kinds which are supposed to do everything and more still.
I'm not sold on the fancy ones, but haven't tried them either.
It's worth considering whether a boost feature would help, it depends on the sort of jobs you have for it. If you are likely to come out to a machine, find the battery flat and need it going asap then it's great to be able to flick it to boost and be going much quicker.
It does a little more than you need, seeing as it has 24v, but that's the kind of thing I would look to, it's a decent piece of kit.
Whatever you go for I would say get no less than a 10a one for tractor batteries.
Long link.
But that is the new version of what I sue on my friends tractors. They used something similar when I was working on Lorry loader cranes.
The Sealy one I have as only ever had 1 issues. The clamps, they seamed to be a bit flimsy, so after I trashed one by dropping something heavy on one I replaced them with some ex MOD ones.
A friend gave me one of these a year or two ago, (he'd had it set aside for tractor use, but rarely if ever used it), and I had chance to try it on the Surf when it had a completely flat battery one morning the other month.
Seems to work a treat on the charge & start functions, as the Surf is no lightwweight for starting. For general use, as in keeping batteries topped up though, I just tend to use an old, basic TX based unit. I'm another one who never bothers with the 'smart' chargers.
