Battery adaptor cable repair

I bought a fancy Makita battery adaptor from Japan.

I intended to use it for hedge cutting, and for some reason I was a bit careless and cut the cable whilst facing a large hedge.

The cable itself has 18awg cores for power and some skinnier ones for signals. I'd say 18awg is a bit skinny as the tools can draw between 25 and 40 amps!

While a new length of cable would be best, the tool end may be harder to swap out - I have not worked out how to disassemble the pivot.

Is similar cable available?

What's your concern with splicing it back together and heatshrinking it?

Uninsulated butt crimps and heatshrink will sort it.

Its roughtly 1.5 or 2m cable and the damage is right in the middle. A repair gives the option of one big lump or, if I shorten the cable slightly for a staggered repair without too much of a lump, but a longer inflexible section.

The lump may get in the way or catch on things.

2m of normal cable is not expensive so that would be my preference but I am not sure where to look for this type.

I'd just change it for some 5 core H07 flex.

Fit a new cable and add some mini plugs and sockets at the ends so that when you cut it again there is no soldering involved.

We used a tough flexible cable to supply the machine fixtures, it had a thick pair for 24VDC power to sensors, solenoids etc. and one or two twisted pairs for data, can't recall the make,but it may be worth looking at process automation cables from the likes of Igus, Lapp etc.

It's a matter if a compromise between flexibility and cut resistance.
As suggested, ho7 flex is rubber covered, fairly flexible and cut resistant.

Stopped at CEF and got a 2m length of 1.5mm² 5 core H07RN. The original is 18awg power and 22awg for signals, so significantly more copper in this, however it feels about the same for flexibility.

However this means I need to open up the pivoting end at the tool which looks to be a challenge.

Install a waterproof mains connector six inches from the end of the tool or battery pack in this case.
