It's an Iveco. That's a factory fit feature.
I'm fed up dealing with Iveco's and batteries that go flat. I can't even remember the last time I had to deal with battery drain problems, but the past couple months I've had to deal with 3 Daily's with battery drain problems.

My daf would drain batteries until I fitted an isolator. I’m guessing the reason it’s gone down this time is that it’s been left for about 6 weeks over Xmas and whilst recovering from the dreaded virus.

How old a Daf?
If it's an old 45/55, pull the tacho fuse when it's going to be parked up for more than a couple days (around the middle of the left hand fuse box IIRC)

Yes it is an old 45 - a 2003. It’s always parked up for more than a couple of days at a time and really only gets used a couple of times a month

I just put the cars on a smart charger now and then, the missus hasn't driven her car in months now and it's a nearly new battery so I don't want to knacker it! The Surf goes on now and then as it has the "winter pack" with two batteries and I really don't want to knacker them!!!
I use my Optimate 4 and I've just bought a Noco 1 amp charger that I put on her car yesterday. They both restart after a power cut so none of this ruined battery lark if the power goes off!

Trucks are a nightmare, as said the tacho will drain a battery, I have also found leaving the keys in them doesn’t help. The twin battery set can also cause a problem, one slightly iffy battery will take the pair down. This is the main reason I want to rig up on board charging systems, leave a modern battery flat for a couple of weeks and they are never the same.

That'll be an LF then.
Digital tachos aren't as bad for draining batteries, but the various modules will still pull a bit current on a LF.

For the past 4 or so years its been fine with isolating the battery whilst its parked up and given it a decent run once or twice a month. Its been left longer this time with Christmas and illness so, kind of expected. Its not going to break the bank to replace them, just bad timing for a few batteries to go at the same time! Although, if the booster hadnt gone down chances are I would never have noticed the weaker battery on the DAF until it was a problem.

That's something I didn't know! I've had an Iveco for 10 years and If I don't use it for a week or two, it won't start. I've had a small solar cell on the dashboard for the last few years and in the summer it keeps the battery charged but in the winter with little sunlight, it can't keep up. I presumed it was the radio and immobilise that drained it. Or maybe the trakker it had when I got it. Not that I've ever managed to find out where it is. I've now bought a 3x2 solar panel for £60 that I'm going to mount on the roof. That'll fry the bugger. Does anyone know the source of the drain on Ivecos?

We always use Yuesa batteries from halfords now on the trade card, a few people have said they had issues but on the VW LT35 its been faultless now for 3 years, i think they claim a 5 year warranty even on commercial, the only time i had a slow power drain it turned out to be the alternator even though it showed no lights but when it was unplugged it stopped the drain.

We had the same issue a few years back with an iveco at work was a utter pain

we never found it nor the three garages that had it

tHe only thing that helped was a battery isolated switch

It's evident in a couple of dash lights glowing. Non issue in normal circumstances so never devoted any time to it but with lockdown and standing it became an issue.

Have you looked at the trailer socket. I have the same issue as you. I know it’s the socket tracking but haven’t had time to fix it yet

I believe the socket itself is AWOL. Haven't looked closely tbh. Until I'd solved the emmisions issues (some idiot fitted injectors from a MK3 in a MK4) I didn't want to waste too much time.
Soon as the weather warms up il be giving the van attention

A few months shy of the 5-year warranty running out, it wouldn't start again so I took it to my local garage. They got onto the local Dingbro depot and it was replaced without question - great batteries & service!

I’ve always had the same service with yuasa. Won’t use any others out of choice.

Best battery I had was a Deta, bought in Germany "dry charged", came with 6 bottles of acid, lasted 11 years.
They are owned by Exide now, so probably not that good any more.

I get mine from Halfords on trade too, great with 5 year warranty, cars and caravan has them on now, any Halfords will cover warranty so if you’re away it’s still covered.
