We have a small bathroom, lots of showers going on and have cavity wall insulation so if humidity builds up the ceiling goes mouldy in no time. With a good fan this isn't a problem.
When I moved in there was a basic Xpelair 100mm thing with a pull cord (there is no cable for switching). It was grimy, so I just swapped it like for like.
Then the flaps which are supposed to open automatically stopped working, so it got replace with a PIR one which worked brilliantly. That one failed within warranty so the electrical factor swapped it for another one. Now that one has failed and the anti-back-draught flap was always useless anyway, so I need yet another one.
(Or, tell me to stop and fit something altogether different, but I'd prefer to use the existing hole in the wall and not have to sort the tiles.)
I can't seem to find PIR ones for a sensible (?) price and Screwfix et al don't seem to stock them at all - is there some reason for this? I'm sure I didn't pay more than £50 for the last one but they seem to be £100 plus now.
Fair enough if I have to spend a bit more, I'm fed up of changing them now. These look OK

but the advantage of the PIR one is it would come on when someone used the loo to remove 'unwanted odours', but the humidistat option would only work if the shower was in use (or if the room was very humid, which could well mean it runs permanently, for all I know).
Some of them even work using an app...has anyone used one of these? How do they work?
I'd be really grateful if anyone can advise!
