Basic questions: Drill bits/suppliers/cutting fluid?

I think I'll try the tapping route. The former SHOULD snug up tight, but if that fails, I still have the option to drill it over size, and put a grub screw in.

Very true mate. I am sure m8 threads will hold up fine on a small press

Mine has a grub screw and 8 or 10mm hole.

If for an extra, to hold something in the arbor, the pressure should not be on the threads - the item should simply thread in until the shoulder is against the end of the arbor

That is why I like the grub screw stick the tool in press it down then nip the screw up, all the force is on the end of the ram then not on the threads

I've done it!
Particular thanks to @Arclikeharrypotter for the Dormer drill bits.
I've seen the light of using the right speed for the drill and material. Coupled with liberal use of CT-90 I have managed to drill some lovely clean holes, and produce some long curls of swarf.
I then tapped them out, to M8, and I'me very chuffed with the results.
It's really quite satisfying!.
