Basic Metalwork Question and a Water-Jet Query

Hello,

I've attached a photo of an aluminium block, 60mm square, that I'd like made. I have no experience of metalwork, but what would be the easiest/most cost-effective way to make this?

Would it be waterjet or some kind of CNC machine?

Also, could anyone recommend any water-jet cutting companies in the South East that do small jobs.

Any answers and advice gratefully received. Thank you

Solid stainless would weigh a fair but and be a lot more expensive and much more difficult to machine.

you could go and ask over on mycncuk
there are many members that have built there own cnc machines and some that built for people that want one.
they also do jobs and parts for people that needs stuff cnc'd

just stick up a request in this section

60mm cube, slot (maybe 30*30) cut across the top, polished and with a glass piece inserted.

Took me a while to see it for what it is. Now though, it's a simple milling operation. The hard work is in the polishing and for that I would also opt for stainless. I would guess polished alloy would need some sort of protection, ie.anodising. Black anodising might look nice, but then there is also the lettering to do...
