I never had problems in the past putting matting in my clear and not being able to clean it to be fair. All I was really interested in at the start of the post was, is it totally necessary to clear and not that I would actually do it. Im now wondering if the "non cleared basecoat" from the factory may actually be tinted epoxy??

In my opinion its not just regular basecoat, easy way to find out

Delorian avoided the problem of stone chips by not actually traveling anywhere on the road though so not a good example.
