Basecoat or direct gloss white?

Kia clear White, UD is the paint code. Various minor scratches to be sorted out, but notaby they have taken the name bumper literally, both ends need repair and rear has the worst damage - a thick layer of plastic peeling off the bumper with the paint.

Would it be best using basecoat and clear, or direct gloss? DG would mean any minor scratches could be polished out and I assume, where a car is a solid colour, they use DG from factory?

Direct gloss is no longer permitted for moderns, it's all basecoat and lacquer. Powers that be seems to think that it make a difference to total VOC emissions.

The cars are 2016 and 2017 plates so not too recent. The local paint shop is happy to supply either.
I assume professionals are all using water based colour basecoats now.

All factory paint has been water based base coat and clear lacquer finish for around 20 years now whether solid or metallic.

doubt you will find it in direct gloss

can still polish light damage from clearcoat , might as well do it how it was from new

Is that all cars sold in the UK/EU or just those made in the UK/EU?

I would have assumed DG has roughly the same VOC as clearcoat once its thinned for use so the regulation seems a bit silly. The fact is you need volatiles in the clearcoat so what does it matter if it also contains the colour..

Don't know to be sure, just what I've observed on anything I've worked on over the last 20 years.
