barn /shed cladding in black "primer"? take creosote?

looking to do some repair work on the sheds and need to match 175mm cladding , the online seller has a choice of black primer , id be happy with black if it will take creosote

ive asked them , but wondered if anyone on here uses it and knows

Our local supplier does this in black primer and plain but treated. Tanalised I think. We bought this to do our cabin. Its rougher and takes creosote (the apology they call creosote nowadays) well. Been on ten years now. No rot at all.

thats the one i was looking at , no good if the old engine oil /creosote mix wont soak in

So's my fence. Which is odd as you can't buy it anymore. Nor can I buy the tin of paint stripper I have in the shed.

And no they aren't that old, both have been bought in the last year.

i can get the proper stuff 30 quid a drum just done all my fences with it and added a bit of waste engine oil to it lasts donkeys years

Sorry guys but you are wrong about the creosote. Those who sell it say its traditional creosote, but it isn't. There is no or little Naphtha in in it for a start, and there is something else missing too, but I cant remember what it is offhand. These constituents are banned as they are carcinogenic. The old creosote was way more pungent and soaked into the timber quicker. Especially end grain if you are standing fence posts in a drum. "Creosote" now tends to sit on the surface much longer and takes much longer to dry.

I am NOT talking about Creocote or Creoseal, the DIY stuff that retail outlets sell either.

I have a drum of proper old stuff that I am saving to put on our house cladding when its done. For everything else I buy the so called traditional stuff, and mix diesel fuel with it for the first coat or two to get it to penetrate.

i have maybe 30 ltrs of creosote ive stashed away....just wanted to know if the already black boards would take it readily not argue about creosote , would be a nice headstart if its already the right colour and i treat it when im ready

New ones they put in down my road are deffo creosote.
