Bargain tools at Aldi.

Folks, I'm posting this under the beginners thread as that seems the most appropriate place for it. I have just picked up Aldi's "forthcoming bargains" flyer. This refers to Sunday Specials for this sunday, 13.3.11. They are selling an air shear (nibbler) for £13 and a 3" air cut off tool for a tenner. The make is Powercraft which is clearly cheap and cheerful. However for occasional use you can't go wrong. They're also doing a 2.5 hp compressor for £80. All items have a 3 year warranty and a customer helpline (probably a Chinese YTS kid lol.)

They have a 'spot blaster' set as well. Just wondering how that works as it has a bag to catch the grit.

I'm guessing that the nozzle is placed in contact with the workpiece and the grit gets pulled back into the nozzle and falls into the bag?

Thats it.... in theory , still seem to get grit everywhere though. Only really useful for spot repairs , but useful non the less

will do say a 5p size patch at a time ...really needs a man size compressor

I got the metal shears last year and they have been really good and i got the wall mounted air hose reel.

Today i got the airfilter regulator and lubricator and the 3" air cut off tool.
will give them a go tomorrow if i get time.

I got the shears and the impact gun. Shears are good fun but I've not tried the impact gun yet. 312Nm should ( in theory at least ) shift my car's hub nuts.

I looked at the cut off tool, couldn't believe it i paid £25 odd quid last month for one from machine mart then they sell one for £6 odd, gutted

i picked up the cut off saw and the ratchet today, they wont get used much but have a 3 year warranty.
has anyone any experience on warranty issues?

Well I got the cut off tool, the shears, and a regulator/lubricator today. I doubt I will use the cut off tool a great deal, but for £6 I don't mind it sitting about for a while. Just one job where it really comes in handy and I will be happy. The shears look to be ok and the regulator is deffo cheap n cheerful but time will tell! Worth a punt in my book anyhow!

Thought i would take a punt on the compressor today as a back up for my usual unit. Seems to be ok for the money , apart from everything finger tight and leaking on first run LOL.
Tightend everything up , and she runs like a champ , quick to get to pressure , just a little noisey perhaps , Will it last time , will tell

Went and bought the reg, shears, ratchet and 3" cut off tool today based on the recommendation of a mate that already has loads of Aldi air tools. He uses them in his garage business and says he has had no problems with them. But with a 3 year warranty does it really matter for the money?

Well I got suckered in as well...

Cutoff tool (already have a similar one but hey, I have two workshops )
Impact wrench (mate got one a while ago, hasn't broken his yet)
Filter/reg (for a compressor I've been cobbling together)
Spot blasting kit (might come in useful)
Air shears (already have an electric one but it's 50 years old so you never know...)
Digital caliper (spare one to leave on the mill).
Tin of WD40.

£71 all-in

There was a guy with two trolleys full of stuff, heard him mention Ebay - he'd left one compressor for the rest of us. I thought about buying it but I have three already of 100L+ so it seemed greedy

Now to swap all the couplings for better ones...

you might want to remove the plastic shield and check the head nuts etc , i did when mine was new and they werent all that tight
