Absolutely agree, what were they thinking putting parabolic springs on it? The ride height looked ridiculous and it seemed higher at the back than the front. Why did they need to get it blasted to discover that the chassis and bulkhead were beyond repair, or was there a VIP lane/jobs for the boys, looking for a favour?Looked OK in the end but I've never seen rear springs like that on an original series 1, and I've seen a few.
I'm more than ready to accept the programme's just entertainment but the Series 1 restoration veered from the almost sublime to the downright ridiculous.
Years ago, one of the Landy forums discussed building a Series from a wrecker (for the VIN plate) and new/remanufactured parts from the usual suppliers. I wonder whether it would have been a cheaper option than this?
Today, I suspect such a project would lose you the original number plate and require vehicle type approval. Obviously outside of the whole B & C arrangement, so not a choice.
I'm also curious as to why a particular persona is encouraged for TV presenters, I'm sure some of these individuals are quite personable in real life but put them in front of a TV camera and they become unbearable. I'm thinking, Tim Shaw, Mike Brewer, (for me, Henry Cole), Sarah Moore off 'Money For Nothing' and that bloke Jay Blades off 'The Repair Shop', whose only recognisable skill seems to be self promotion. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him presenting 'Sky At Night'. If I sat and thought about it, I'm sure there'd be many others in the light entertainment and news genres too but I don't watch them anymore.
As for Drew Pritchard; insufferable on and off screen.
Some time ago I 'Googled' "unpopular TV presenters UK". Interesting the literally hundreds of people who name the same individuals.
