bandsaw blades

i know this has been asked 100 times but i have a 6" clarke band saw and am in need of a new blade, the one i have had on there has lasted a good few years and i know the company was recommeded by someone on here.

any recommendation?

Never found the MM ones to be any good, a neighbour is very senior there and says they buy in the cheapest cr@p they can get, for the most profit.

That's a very defamatory statement, would you like to back that up with any evidence/proof, rather than hearsay?

My post wasn't relating to MM's own brand, but I clearly posted suggesting the OP might choose to purchase a "Clarke" blade for a "Clarke" saw...

Yes, screw fix of course only buy the best top quality stuff to sell on at cheap cheap prices, whereas machine mart do the opposite.

As per others, don't go for the cheapest own brand, but then Mike os has given you the answer you seek.

No he hasn't, I have a small bandsaw used only for light work and I found out about the Screwfix ones by accident, I needed one on a Sunday and got one from Screwfix which lasted nearly a year and were worn out instead of the usual snapping.

For anything else I use the big bandsaw.

What evidence would you like? there is nothing defamatory about it as no other brand was actually mentioned, I did try a pack of 5 MM blades and they didn't last more than a few days each and they all snapped which is good enough for me not to try them again. I found the Screwfix ones and they were competitive in price and very durable and outlasted many of the major brand names I have also tried.

I found the MM one's excellent, now perhaps I got a good blade because I am sure they change their suppliers if and when they find cheaper suppliers but I bought a pack of three and they cut well and lasted ages.

Back to the OP, now some one has turned this into another hand bag fight.

MM do a good range of blades, their own and of course Clarks. Out of the 2 I lean towards Clarks. I have used MM blades have no issues, apart from when I have made a setting up mistake.


Screwfix blades, again Good and bad. Never had an issue. But logic says buy cheep buy twice.

I have no experience of @mike os . Post no 2. On Tuff Saws. But I have heard some good stuff about them.

But from my experience put a Clarks blade, after all it is their machine.

I wouldn't use anything other than M42 bi-metal blades.

I used the 1/2" blades in my little saw but have moved on to a bigger machine with hydraulic feed and coolant pump that takes a 3/4" blade.

Again, M42 every time.

Mm blades are ok.... until you use an m42 blade from a decent supplier

The band saw I have access to is not mine. It is my friends. So I am limited to the ones he uses.
