Bandsaw Blades - 64 1/2 x 1/2

My bandsaw snapped a blade yesterday, typical given it's a bank holiday weekend.

I've read about dragon saws, who are apparently no more, and tuff_saws. Does anyone else have any experiences or suggestions?

I tend to go for the m42 blades vari pitch ,used to get them from dragon .
last lot i got from an e bay vendor (not tuff saws) took about 10 days to arrive

i will buy from tuff saws next time but the m42 blades last ages
they are about £15 each i think .

if u have the gear silver solder or braze it back together both will be fine as long as its set true

Don't have the gear, which is unfortunate. Managed today with just the grinders, I'd forgotten how much I appreciated just being able to leave the bandsaw to it, quieter job, neater cut, etc etc.

Stay away from carbon steel, a waste if money.
I use m42 blades vari pitch (HSS teeth on soft back) last for ages.

Dragon saws packed up and I gather one of the guys started up as Tuff saws.
If you contact them and tell them what you're intending to cut, they will recommend the ideal blade.

We had a guy from Starrett turn up to give a demo on various aspects of setting up, and running bandsaws properly, I actually did not realise there are various factors for getting the best from a bandsaw. We were also given three freebie bandsaw blades, I know starrett supply great blades at a premium price, I can assure you, their blades are far superior to others on the market, possibly on the plus side by a factor of 3x cost of other brand names.

However, with proper machine setup, their blades will outlast inferior blades by approx factor of 5!

BTW, I have no allegance to starrett.

my brother just bought 6 starret bi metal hss blades from auto jumble £2 each .there slightly longer than needed but wil cut down and either silver solder or braze together and as said good quality blades and last

Well as a bit of a follow-up, I went with Tuff-saws, sent Ian a couple of questions via Ebay and got some very helpful replies back.

I ordered an M42 10/14 tpi blade last week and it arrived today. I'm rather impressed by it, it's made from Starrett stock, so a decent make, which certainly shows when it's cutting, compared to the old one. Cut quality has improved, I think the blade runs better (the old one used to wander on thin wall tube, this doesn't) and it cuts quicker too.

So, overall, 10/10 for tuff-saws.
