Bandsaw bits

I just picked up a cheap Startrite 20V bandsaw, I knew it needed the door handles replacing but I did not realise what a challenge it was going to be finding them. I have managed to find something similar in the states on ebay I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can get them in this country?
Also where do I get Startrite spares from - is it Record power tools, I need a few bits for the lower blade guide, as it worked fine when I went to see it I can only assume they fell off while on the trailer

I Think from memory one of the cheapie tool suppliers/ machine tool suppliers bought them out. Well one of them did, but unsure which is it now. Its either,

Chester machine tools,

Ajax machine tools. (I have a feeling is ajax looking at their site)

Give them a call if it's not one of them they will know who it is... I have a feeling they wont do spares for the older models anyhow but worth a shot.

Thanks Scott, I have found a website http://www.machinespares.net that sell Startrite spares, after looking at the prices I am beginning to wonder if getting a replacement set of roller guides might be the best answer.

Axminster power tools do a set of replacement roller guides for bandsaws, I fitted a set to my ancient Whitehead bandsaw and it made a vast improvement.

Not really of much help to you mate, but your thread reminded me of a situation I had. I bought a brand new Record Band-saw some years ago, it was only for diy use and to make cutting the tenons on mortice and tenon joints easier, it sat there for a couple of years and I doubt I used it more than half a dozen times, then one day I glanced at it and could see some bits of metal laying on the table the picture below is what I found, yes the rollers guides had just fallen appart and the metal used in their construction was obviously inferior and unfit for purpose. When I complained to Record I found they were fully aware of the problem and had a kit to replace all the guide rollers, but I had to pay for it

If you Google Startrite Bandsaw there are several parts suppliers - this one says that the re-manufacture bits for older machines.

I had the same thing on a ryobi, you can see the original to the left. They are only pot metal and the section the clamping force opposes is only thin.
I just made a new one, using cheap roller bearings as the roller. As a result its more accurate and the blades last longer.

My notes say theyre old dremel bearings, if anyone should feel the need to replicate and has a broken dremel around (and who amongst the dremel owning populace doesnt...)

Hi Mr Fluffy, Oh I did pay Record for their repair kit, they supplied a much higher standard of replacement of the upper and lower guides and bearings

Not my day today, the replacement bits from Axminster turned up and there's no chance of them fitting not without cutting them in half. I know they say you might need to do some modifications to adapt them but I have 3 bandsaws here a large 20" and a 12" wood cutting and this Startrite and there is not room on any of them for these to fit without sawing off the adjustment knobs.
Oh well, looks like I am going to have to dig deep and buy the bits I need.
If I look on the bright side, this has given me yet another reason to buy a Mill

I fitted the axminster blade guides mentioned above to my bandsaw soon after they offered the upgrade for sale (guessing 6 or 7 years ago now?) despite the bandsaw being an axminster model that they listed as only needing a few minor modifications it was a hell of a job getting them to fit properly and to this day are far from perfect TBH as the castings themselves just aren't quite right - too bulky for my saw and don't allow for enough adjustment of the rear bearing when using big 1" blades (which is normally all we ever use). Anyway not sure how it helps you but if it's any consolation they barely fit some axminster saws any better.

Mine fitted fine, the lower set just bolted in and the upper set I made a new height adjustable shaft from 20mm bar with a flat filed onto it.
