Ove seen the small ones for sale on ebay and having it at the right height was one of my thoughtsSomeone else should assess what I am about to say and confirm, but I think to do what you show with the style shown in Kram's video will be difficult. He made his suggestion before you posted your picture, so do not think I am knocking it.
With a horizontally-pivoted one, you would need the centreline of the ball turner pivot to line up with the centre of the radius you want to cut. This means for the shape you show in the photo, it would have to be a mile either above or below centre height. Note in the DB video, the centre of the ball is the centre of rotation. The only way you can adjust it up or down is with the toolpost and that is not easy.
The other popular style of ball turner is called a 'Steve Bedair' one. This has a vertical pivot and would be a lot easier to set up to do what you want. You can adjust it back and forth using the cross slide and forward and back using the carriage.
That’s exactly how I do production bits on the capstan. One run I do is 1/2” brass with a 0.5D rad on the end.Form tool?
I also said it depends on the radius, and small ones are better with a form toolHe made his suggestion before you posted your picture, so do not think I am knocking it.
I bet she’s going through life without realising how lucky she could be…..I saw a ball turner today & I have to say she can radius my corners any time!
Just ordered 2 thankyou
I just stick a radius milling cutter in the tool post.
