Another question is: could you pump it into a storage tank with a pcp 3 stage hand pump (instead of using a compressor)? How much is a suitable brewing vessel?
+ baking soda + citric + time
I don't know what size setup you would need to produce enough volume for welding so you might have to add the cost of pumping it into a storage bottle.
It's about the cheapest welding gas to buy.
You can buy it as pub gas etc. even cheaper.
Work out the numbers by all means but I'd guess it's cheaper to buy it ready bottled..

Out of date fire extinguishers. ~£5 a kilo CO2. Or was when I last bought. Probably more now but still going to be cheaper than most options.
Plus your welds will smell of chips.....
I actually prefer CO2 for welding thick stuff. Don't get much spatter either. I keep the Argon for my TIG.I have several CO2 bottles for welding gas, never paid over $5 for any one of them.
A few were old fire extinguishers, that I had the local hydro test place test, and change the valve to the proper one.
I get my CO2 not from a welding supply place, rather I use a local vendor that sells
to the soft drink places (and repairs the fountains) as it's cheaper.
As posted up above, CO2 is the cheapest gas out there.
They're terrible. Anybody serious about using CO2 in the Aquarium hobby goes down the gas bottle and proper 2 stage regulator route. What do you think of these aquarium cylinders? You put baking soda and citric acid and voila. This clip shows how it works.
I set up a mixer using (2) regulators with proper flow meters and a "Tee" fitting.I actually prefer CO2 for welding thick stuff. Don't get much spatter either. I keep the Argon for my TIG.
Bargain. You couldn't make it for that. Let alone compress it.Proper, rent-free, in-date welding gas is under £3.50/kg delivered to your door (plus the bottle deposit of course)
