then I came to my senses and just kept shtum.
welded up .... or undersealed over?I found a whole bird's nest of MIG wire inside a Landrover chassis that had been "welded" up.
If that was my personal vehicle, rather than a works, I'd be talking to VOSA.
That’s a point! We have (somehow) seen quite a lot worse on here.
Always beats me how anybody can bring themselves to leave a job like that, never mind charge for it...
Arh now that's the question I asked but apparently the guy who my gaffer got to put the van through the mot owes him money so working off the debt. That’s a point!
How much was it??

Does it irritate others when you see a repair done like this cause it does me could have been done better if he had ground the rust off first instead of welding to it.
I'm guessing that is the mindset in play here get the mother on it and get it out on the road earning the money.and our mind set on this forum more often than not is do the best repair we can that is solid and functional keeping the vehicle in good order as long as we can.in other words we are a dieing breed in this throw away society now everything is made with a very short life span.Of course it's better. But you're well aware of what you find if you dig, and you're looking long term...
If you're paying someone else to get a relatively cheap vehicle through the mot, would you want them to have it for a month and end up paying a few grand?
Nobody does. Cars/vans are semi disposable commodities - when they get costly bin them and replace.
It's not a good quality repair, it's debatable whether it should actually pass an mot - but it's cheap and it gives a year to source a replacement...
Sills are no longer cosmetic on a modern car they are "prescribed areas"But, vehicles are so much better now. I have an MX5 and a Merc estate and both are '03s. Thats 14, coming on 15 years old and still going strong.
Years ago the average ten year old car with 70k on the clock was a wreck.
Most of the rust MOT fails are wings and sills which are cosmetic repairs.
Yes there are structural chassis failures but these fewer in number.
