Bad Back

I've been suffering with a bad back for some time now , no please no sympathy required ! Decided to go to the chiropractic man, had a session today , not sure if it's worked yet ! Still hurts , question is this , can I claim for the money paid out for physio ? Against my tax ?

Hi, I suffered from a bad back which just got worse as I got older, had multiple sessions with a chiropractor. Eventually a couple of years ago I got referred to a physiotherapist who told me that the problems were with the muscles on my lower back. She gave me half a dozen simple exercises to do on a daily basis (20 mins or so)
It took around 4-5 weeks of doing this but it cured it.
Im not exaggerating when I say that some days I struggled to put my socks on and running was out of the question.

You do need to persevere it’s not an overnight fix but hopefully it’ll work for you too, I was told that my problems stemmed for spending too much time sitting down at work. Which is not something I can prevent due to my job.

If your problem is muscular as opposed to sceletal the chiropractor sessions will not help (so I was told by the physio)

I’m the same, I do the exercises at least once a day. But if I do them twice a day and my foam roller exercises it makes a world of difference. Twice a day (morning and night] I wake up in the morning with no stiff back.

I put the lot through when I had a course for my shoulder about ten years back.

It’s was about £500 worth. Accountant didn’t even blink.

I’m bad, I don’t do the exercises I was given the way I should. I’m meant to do them daily but I’d have to get up an hour earlier to get them done. If I feel my back going, I do the exercises. They certainly help

Osteopath, chiropractor. You will need three sessions before you feel the benefit. You are lucky you can claim something back. I couldn't. I don't begrudge paying as it's worth every penny.

Exactly this, I had to keep at it for a month or two and it’s lifted my back pain from constant to hardly at all

Loads of water and a hot water bottle is nice too

I've found the old hot water bottle to be an excellent relief for back and neck pains, my poor old mum used to have one behind the small of her back in the chair pretty constantly, if I was round there it was always.."do us a refill for me bottle luv." !

Chiro might work for you . It's all horses for courses .
I was seeing the chiropractor for years , never really got any better , just manageable between visits . Then I went to a proper physiotherapist , but of a rub down twice a week for two months then some exercises to do when needed . Must be 5 years now with no real problems , other than being a dikhead and lifting too much - I'm no longer 20 and fit as a butcher's dog !

You can put the cost through, but mustn’t reclaim the VAT (if you’re VAT registered). Should also report on your P11d.

Is that for the self employed, or can anybody write off taxes against medical bills? I’m retired, on a foreign income pension, and curious what I could do to save handing over all my 20% each year, if I can legally avoid it.

No!

Certain things you can claim for such medical test for your job, think truck drivers, and eye tests for computer users being the most common ones.

I’m asked the same question by numerous clients and the general rule is if you get a benefit from it then it’s not allowable.

Right, well here you go: I have been stuck in bed since yesterday and I spent ALL last night talking down the big white porcelain telephone. Now If I could pay someone to make this all go away I would. The "benefit" then is I could g back to work and earn. So By benefiting from the treatment and therefore being able to go back to work and earn money to be taxed on?...... Can you see where I am struggling with this. If anyone has a "cure " for my current dilemma I would love to hear it. In the last 48 hours I have had 2 slices of toast and 2 sachets of Dioralyte - which is disgusting by the way.
