Back purging stainless - CO2/flux/tape/etc?

Yes - well done indeed! The UPS van has just been and swapped a new parcel for my old one -all very efficient, he even had the dispatch label ready to go. Assuming the replacement is okay then R-tech are looking pretty impressive - fingers crossed!

But back to the main thread, I've got a couple of flow meters on the way and am waiting for energas to get back to me, but it looks like their midi cylinder will be about 1/8th the price of my 9L one for the gas, so the rental charge looks 'well' worth it. I should be able to afford to back-purge with argon then, without feeling under pressure to rush all the time. As they've a local depot it should also be a lot less faff when I need to swap/refill it too. Think I'm starting to get there :-)

I am glad to hear that you have had a good result from R-tech., and I am sure you will now have a very reliable machine.It is in such circumstances when service counts most. All I can say is well done R-tec. and keep up this good customer service.
There is an old saying that "you can always sell some thing the first time but not the second ".

It is good, but in my opinion it's still a distant second to something that doesn't break in the first place, if such a thing does actually exist.

Thought i would bump up this thread instead of starting another.

Sorry for the silly question but when back purging stainless pipe (for a turbo manifold), does it need a constant flow of argon, or do i simply fill the pipe with argon seal it up then weld. Seems like if i need a constant flow im going to go through tonnes of gas, specially as im fairly new to welding and will probably take me ages just for one weld.

You'll need a constant flow, but only enough to keep a positive pressure inside the pipe to keep any air out. For a small job with a close fit-up, just a litre or two a minute will suffice. The less room there is for air to get in, the less purge is required to keep it out.

Thanks Drains, that makes sence.

Im gonig to have to buy a bottle just for purging as i cant use works gas, but at a litre a minute im going to go through loads of bottles am i not...?

Edit: just realised how stupid i am, 10 litre bottle contains more than 10 litres of argon haha
