back boiler!!

me fecking back boiler has got a whole in it!!!

me woodburning stove is about 8yrs old, as is the boiler.
as you can imagine after 8yrs of burning wood its pretty much clagged up, which means i will struggle to get it out (i think).

i was going to have it to bits in the summer to do a gravity fed system, but i need the fire now!!!, as its -4 out side tonight!!

so tomorrow im going to have a play and see if i can remove with out breaking out, if i cant remove it is it ok to fill it with sand and use me fire????

then in the summer, i can remove it at me liesure, and replace it we a new one.

any ideas on this??

if you dont "need" the back boler just drain down & use the fire

What's it made out of?

If it's copper it might distort or even get a hole burnt in it. It could also anneal if you get it red hot!

If it's iron or steel you should be OK.

cheers chaps, its a mild steel one.

might have a crack at fabing me own, as a new one is £180!! and theres nowt to them.

i suspect when i drain it and light a fire its gonna stink for a while.

obviously too late to reply to this thread but for anyone else who might be interested: you are better off filling the boiler with sand rather than leaving it empty. even if it's already knackered and you don't think it's repairable, it might distort badly if left empty and then you struggle to remove it or it strains or breaks something else in the firebox while distorting.

just my opinion, i'm not an expert at all but i did a bit of research when i was installing my rayburn.

lol, a tad late!

cheers, got it all sorted and up and running again now.

but im still going to do a gravity fed system in the summer, cant be doing with this pumped waste of lecy idea.
