Axminster milling machine ID

Does anyone recognise this milling machine and where I might find a manual for it? The table has 380mm and 140mm of travel and the motor is 1/4hp single phase.

It also came with a couple of tools, one I think is a slot drill and the other an indexed cutter of some sort?


I bought it on a bit of a whim- a reasonable sized mill that's single phase and came on a table with suds tray and lamp. Hopefully worth the money for £250. It is if weight is anything to go by- seriously hard work for 2 of us.

Any advice for a starter set of clamps and tools for reasonable money?

I researched clamping kits for an evening and the cheapest I found was here:

Also be careful as some dealers sell the clamping kits by the maximum stud size the a table will take and others by the slot size. As an example mine has a slot size of 12mm and a stud size of M10. Some sites list this as a 12mm kit and others as a M10 kit.
Throw Imperial sizes into the mix and you have plenty of scope for confusion!

I've managed to find a manual online. But could anyone give me a hand with the correct way to remove this tool? Is there a tool I'm missing? I don't want to go at it with some shifting spanners



From the manual the T slots have an 11mm "neck" and 16mm wide 5mm high"bottom". Am I right in saying I need a 16mm clamping kit?

I'm making a laminated copy of the spindle speed/ tool diameter table.

Edit: come to think of it, what's stopping me making my own clamps? What material are they normally made of?

The whole collet chuck you want to take out yeah?

Should a draw bar up the inside of the quill, so at the top of the mill undo the nut and give it a tap. If there is no draw bar wind the quill down and have a look for a slot in the side, you can put a taper wedge in there to push it out.

Aaah, removing the draw bar and putting a spanner between the head and shaft and giving it a sharp tap sorted it, cheers for that.

Number 2 Morse taper head, that's handy I have a 2 MT drill chuck on my fobco if I need to do any drilling.

So I'll need some sort of adapter with driving dogs to fit this other tool I have, once I get some new tips for it?

I would of thought that will be mounted on MT to go into the quill, then again the draw bar pulls it in tight.

If the narrowest part of the T slot is 11mm you need a 10mm or M8 clamp kit or imperial equivalent.

When they have em back in stock. Just tried RDG and Chronos web sites they have M3 but not M2. You sure your mill is only M2 sounds small for the RF45 clones, I'd expect that size on a Sieg X3 or similar size machine.

11mm is near enough 7/16" so maybe a 7/16" slot 3/8" stud kit will fit.

That's a copy Emco 6 speed mill for sure, I bet it even bolts to the back of my Maximat lathe!

Edit: I'm not 100% sure that ebay link is the right one, I didn't think the drawbar I have was M12. Should there be an internal thread on the face mill - there doesn't seem to be on the one I have?

Measure the drawbar thread, probably M10X1.5 or 3/8"BSW
Easy enough to make.
Face mill should fit on to the end of the ebay linked arbor held with supplied or aftermarket screw from underside. Face mill should have two slots to fit over the lugs on the arbor.

Presume the rack is bolted to cylindrical upright column. Even when a good snug fit you will have movement by altering height and locking up. Needs to be on a dovetail but that will move when locked up.
