The Axminster stuff, even the hobby grade stuff is pretty decent. It be far better than one for £20 from wix. They recently changed the grade name too craft from hobby. https://www.axminstertools.com/axminster-craft-ac315pd-bench-pillar-drill-105106

I got a floor standing JET pillar drill I bought from Axminster tools years ago.
It has play in main spindle - was like it from new.

Well its £180, so same as the chinese copies etc. Its a bit of a 50/50 on how well mad or goof they are though. This is hardly used aswell so seems a good buy towards the £280 for a new one..

I asked him if he got the manual for it but no a she forgot what i wanted to know, ye right lol. I said to let me again tomoz if he get them. not paying that for it when its £205 new.
For very little more you could buy a good used British drill which will be much better built. The topic has been covered many times on here.
Did you try posting a wanted ad on the forum, some of the members might have something for sale!

We have an assortment of drills, a Meddings for best a spare Startrite and a £20 Chinese one in the shed. The Chinese one gets some use and has served us well, but whilst it works if you take your time with bigger holes its not a patch on the other two.
Having seen some of the boat stuff you have done I would think you need a better one.

Well after all that i have one. Good or bad for the price for now its good enough for what i need untill i get some good cash together. I was in work ( new job ) and was chatting tot he foreman and i found there is a pillar drill i can have for £50. It is a Clarke CDP451F but hey ho, hardly used as they had it as a back up.
