Been thinking a lot about car lifting, supporting lately.
I have various sets of axle stands, all of the 3 leg centre post with holes and pin type.
I also see more and more frequently the ratchet style ones.
What I don't see, and there must be a reason for it, is any which screw up to the under body, bit like mini Acrows with a decent base. Strikes me it would be very useful as you could raise the stand to whatever height the jack had lifted the car without faffing back to the jack to raise it a bit more to get to the next hole, or lower it a bit. And probably just use 2 hands, the ones with pins I find can benefit from 3 hands a lot of the time.
I've come across such things for levelling up static caravans, but presumably they are not designed to support the weight like axle stands.
Also the tops to bottle jacks tend to have a screw top bit to them, and scissor jacks have a thread taking the strain, so I guess it's not the thread being weak that's a problem?
So is there a good reason you can't get them or am I just not looking in the right places?
Also low profile, lightweight trolley jacks, any that don't have the handle exiting near vertical so you can't get it very far under a car.
Basically I did some work on my MG a few days ago. And after 12+ months of not touching it realised just how much of a faff, and how hard on the back it is getting it up into the air to adjust brakes etc.. and my trolley jack weighs a ton, and the axle stands are a faff!!! I'm getting old.
I've checked out lift type arrangements including reading the threads here, but anything other than the QuickJack system is just too big and in the way for me. But I've had no response from Quickjack to my query of a few days ago so that does not bode well.
I'm just after making raising the whole car off the ground as painless (literally) as possible, to me and my bank balance, so I can try and enjoy working on cars again
