Axial pliers/clamps

Anybody ever used them? Are they just a gimmick? Or a limited autobody application?

The things that look like vice-grips i.e.:

(not suggesting getting those or that brand, just an example).

They look like they could be handy, but I'm wondering if it is the case that 99% of the time you can manage with just a basic C clamp.

Similar are available with more traditional " mole / vice grip" style handles, Id watch out for some of those types.

I wouldn't worry too much about the price, they are available for a lot less that's just an example. It was more the function - can't see much has been discussed about them in the past.

They are one of those tools that it is handy to know exists if you ever get into a situation where you need them.

For instance, if you needed to clamp something deep in the bottom of a narrow U-channel. Conventional grips would hit the sides of the channel when opening and closing. As these open and close by moving up and down relative to the channel sides, they would help.
