Still learning heaps from the posts on this site, tutorials & links etc - but haven't burned a gram of wire yet ......just spending time getting the garage into a fit state for working, creating space to move around etc without prodding myself in the ribs with motorbike handlebars (sore) or other projections.
I now have 2 welders however - both s/h obviously one sealey one clarke. I bought the sealey off ebay two days before someone at work offered me an old clarke on "extended loan" - hmmm.
They're both 100amp models so about the same capabilites but the sealey (newish and shiney) seems a hell of a lot less robust than the much older (and rusty) Clarke. I'll play around with both over the next few weeks but so far the clarke seems much more solid, especially the wire feed, nice and regular. Sealey wire feed is an feeble plastic affair which looks about 1/3 the size of the clarke rollers.
Anyway my question - both came with spools of wire which had rust spots - so i've cut back to clean wire and cleared the liners etc. Both run through fine now, but my garage is at best, slightly damp, no matter what I do to stop ingress of water.
Are there ways to store welders or wire which eliminate rusting wire or should i take spools off and keep somewhere else when not in use ( I expect my welding will occur in bursts so a lay off of 2 or 3 months is quite likely)?
