Hi all
I have both a cheap 'fixed' mask and a not so cheap auto helmet.
I prefer the fixed helmet. Why is this?
I find that the auto helmet 'over exposes' I.e. it doesn't really matter how dark or light I set the auto helmet, the ark and the weld puddle are all just one mass light source. When I use the fixed helmet, it is a similar level of 'light' but there is much more contrast between the arc, the puddle and the work piece - I much prefer this!
Am I doing it wrong, is it just a cheap auto mask being a bit pants or what?
When I weld anything other than thin metal (using a stop-start method) I ALWAYS reach for the cheap standard fixed mask.
Any thoughts??
